Kurt Refsnider set out from the Canadian border in August 2025 to become the first person to ride the full Orogenesis route, 5,000 miles of singletrack and dirt road from Canada to the southern tip of Baja California. I caught up with him and the Orogenesis Collective for one day in the mountains outside Lakeview, Oregon, as he rode his last miles through the state before the route crossed into California.

I was there alongside Sea Legs Media, assisting on their documentary coverage of the ride. One day, sunrise to sunset, in the high desert and mountain terrain of southern Oregon. We chased the light and the rider through a landscape that felt as remote as the journey itself.
